The great majority of Filipino farmers today belong to the poorest of the poor. This is due largely to decades of wrong policies and programs that are biased against agriculture, low productivity of farms, and poorly educated farmers. A typical Filipino farmer today has reached only Grade 5 and is 57 years old. Because of this situation young people don’t see a future in farming.
